The Canadian Museum of Civilization, with its magnificent collection of totem poles and excellent children's museum, is the only place in North America where visitors can see both 3-D films on an IMAX screen and 2-D films on an IMAX dome. In 2012, the museum will also host a thought- provoking show, "God(s): A User's Guide," on the world's diverse religions and their effect on society (December 2, 2011, to September 3, 2012). And the National Gallery of Canada will be the only Canadian venue for the exhibition, Van Gogh: Up Close, which will feature some 50 paintings by the beloved Dutch master (May 25 to September 3, 2012). GettinG politicAl Ottawa is a magnet for political junkies. Most head first to Parliament Hill, whose neo-gothic spires are the city's best- known landmarks. From late June until late August, the Changing the Guard cere- mony draws huge crowds with its colour- ful red wool uniforms and British-style pageantry. Free tours of the Parliament Buildings include the House of Commons, the Senate and the stunning Parliamentary Library with its multi-storey galleries. Many people also visit the sobering Memorial Chamber in the Peace Tower, where books list the names of Canadians killed in war. cHAmBer music, rocK And All tHAt JAZZ Ottawa seems to have a festival for every season.
