Weights and measures Officially Canada uses the metric system of weights and measures, but with so many people still thinking in the imperial system, it's useful to have some idea of both. Conversions a visitor may find useful: • A litre of milk is equal to 1.06 quarts or 2.1 pints. • A 340-millilitre soft drink can contains about 12 fluid ounces. • 28 grams is the same as 1 ounce. • One kilogram is equal to 2.2 lbs. • A 30-cm long hot dog is usually known as a foot-long hot dog. • A pleasant temperature is 22°C or 72°F. • A great day for skiing is when it's -5°C or 23°F. • 1 metre is 1.09 yards or 3.3 feet. • A kilometre is 0.6 of a mile, which means 1.6 kilometres is the same as 1 mile. • 4 litres of gas is equal to 1.06 U.S. gallon. • 5 litres of gas is equal to 1.1 U.K. gallon.
