PARK PICK
POINT PELEE NATIONAL PARK
Located at Canada's southernmost edge,
Point Pelee national Park is a sheltered
enclave of Carolinian forests usually
found further south. each spring, the
festival of the Birds is a wonderful
opportunity to observe warblers and
other migrating songbirds; in fall, qui-
eter birds such as peregrine falcons pass
through. in spring, you can also take
a guided wildfl ower walk with a park
interpreter, while in summer you can
tour lily pad-dotted waters by freighter
canoe. Late spring and early fall are the
best times to spot migrating monarch
butterfl ies. and on certain nights with
a new moon, the park stays open until
midnight so stargazers can take advan-
tage of Point Pelee's status as a Dark Sky
Preserve to observe the skies without
light pollution (www.pc.gc.ca/eng/pn-
np/on/pelee/activ.aspx).
