TRAVEL GUIDE TO CANADA multi-"fauceted" showers. Wellness packages include Healthy Weight Loss, Cleanse and Detox, and the 7 Night Athlete Recovery Program. All of these are under the supervi- sion of naturopaths, kinesiologists and health professionals. I can vouch for the Cleanse and Detox Program. For seven days, I consumed a diet of spelt bread, detoxifying teas, vegetable broth and almond milk. Yoga, meditation, hikes, swims, mud wraps and spa treatments contributed to a more energized and leaner me by the end of the week. I vowed to eat less food more slowly and fl ush my body every spring ( www.sparklinghill. com/kurspa ). SPA EASTMAN, EASTMAN, QC Spa Eastman was known as the fi rst health and wellness resort in Canada when it opened in 1977; it was recently awarded "The Best Spa in Canada" by Spafi nder's 2015 Wellness Travel Awards in all catego- ries combined. Located in the Eastern Townships, about an hour from Montréal, seven pavilions house 44 distinctive rooms around a pond with views of Mont Orford. The Health Immersion Package starts the session with a health coach to determine goals. There are also consultations with the spa's naturopath, nurse and kinesiologist. The regimen includes three gourmet "tonic" meals and numerous daily activities such as hikes, fi tness classes, workshops and the use of various baths, pools and saunas. Unique extra treatments include Watsu, a massage performed in a warm pool and Kobido, a Japanese anti-stress reliever using acupres- sure and bamboo. Spa Eastman customizes packages depending upon your goals. Their mandate is to send home a healthier, better- informed customer ( www.spa-eastman. com ). PURE PAMPERING TEN SPA AT THE FORT GARRY, WINNIPEG, MB Described as "the hottest, steamiest, most exotic place in Canada," Ten Spa in the Fort Garry Hotel in downtown Winnipeg offers a variety of cleansing and purifi cation therapies modelled after the ancient bathing rituals of the Ottoman Empire. Consider the Hot and Steamy for Two. Start with an introductory hamam ritual during which you are served Moroccan mint tea and Turkish delight in a warm, dry room. A self-administered salt rub and rinse is followed by a head, scalp and foot massage on a heated marble slab. An anti-aging facial and pedicure precede lunch and a bottle of bubbly. Cheers! ( www.tenspa.ca). THE SPA AT FOX HARB'R, WALLACE, NS Owned by the multi-millionaire co-founder of the Tim Hortons restaurant chain, The Spa at Fox Harb'r excels at pampering its clientele. Guests rave about the Healing Hands massage that incorporates warm sea stones. In good weather, it may be performed in the gazebo overlooking Northumberland Strait on Nova Scotia's rugged north coast. The Fox Harb'r Signature Facial was developed exclusively by CELLCOSMET, an anti-aging skin care line from Switzerland. The facial also includes a micro current treatment using NuFace technology, a non-invasive way to fi rm and lift. The championship golf course at the resort attracts a large male clientele, so the spa offers a Men's Executive Menu including sports pedicure, MAN-icure and deep cleaning facial ( www.foxharbr.com/ spa). TAKING THE WATERS GROTTO SPA AT TIGHƒ NAƒMARA, PARKSVILLE, BC Tigh-na-mara is an idyllic retreat on Vancouver Island where the warm mineral pool, designed as a stone grotto, beckons visitors to "take the waters." Access to the pool is complimentary with any 60-minute spa treatment. Signature indulgences include the Acai Body Balance— ninety anti-aging minutes of body polish, wrap and massage and mini-facial using anti-oxidizing acai berry products. The popular Dip & Dine package offers a soak in the grotto followed by unlimited tapas served to you in your bathrobe and sandals, overlooking the forest at the Treetop Tapas & Grill ( www.grottospa.com ). SCANDINAVE SPAS, FOUR LOCATIONS ACROSS CANADA Scandinave Spas are designed so guests can rejuvenate by participating in a cycle of heat therapies, refreshing cool rinses and relax- ation periods. The prescribed routine: spend about ten minutes warming your body in a Finnish sauna, eucalyptus-scented steam bath, hot tub or thermal waterfall. Heating the body helps increase blood circulation, which, in turn, cleanses by promoting the elimination of toxins. Then it's time to close the skin's pores by cooling off beneath a bracing Nordic waterfall or a dip in a cold tub. The third part of Scandinave's routine is chill-out time. Snooze in the solarium, swing in a hammock or cozy up with a good book and a cup of organic tea. The warming, chilling and relaxing steps may be repeated as often as you wish. Most people spend at least three hours. The optional fi nal step to ultimate bliss is a relaxing massage. Scandinave Spas are located in Whistler, BC, Blue Mountain, ON and in Mont- Tremblant and Old Montréal, QC ( www. scandinave.com ). Grotto SPa, tiGH-na-Mara, BC
